The City of Carmel has been ranked the No. 1 Safest Midsize City in America by online business research and reporting site, AdvisorSmith, a New York based financial services company, which established its ranking on a variety of factors using federal crime data. Carmel was the only city in Indiana to make the list. Of the top 10 midsize cities, five were in California and two were in Texas. Indiana, North Carolina and New Jersey each had one city.

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation was named a 2021 Fruit Tree Orchard Grant recipient. This opportunity is made possible by Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF) and One Tree Planted.

With the grant, Carmel Clay Parks is receiving 100 native fruit and nut trees. Species of trees to be planted include paw paws, persimmons, pecans, and hazelnuts. The planting will create what is known as a “food forest” where, once the trees mature, the public will have access to the fruit and CCPR will provide education on responsible foraging in the parks.

The City of Carmel has installed new sidewalk markings on Main Street to remind bicyclists that they must dismount and walk their bikes when on the sidewalk in the most congested areas of Main Street in the Arts & Design District. New graphics were painted on the sidewalk in an effort to make them more noticeable to bicyclists.

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt has finalized its list of vendors for 2021. New food additions will include Döner kebab, Kartoffelpuffer, and Springerle cookies.

Money Magazine - Welcome to the Roundabout Capital of America, where drivers can find 140 of the accident-reducing intersections tucked amid corporate buildings for firms like Geico and CNO Financial Group. Not on the road? Look to the pool, where you’ll find Carmel High School’s girls’ swim team training hard in hopes of extending its streak of 35 consecutive state championships — the most of any team in any sport at any high school in the nation.

Located near Indianapolis, Carmel is packed with both serious economic opportunity — at $125,811, it has one of the higher median household incomes on our list — and fun activities for families.

Watch art created before your very eyes at the Carmel on Canvas Plein Air event – an open-air painting exhibition and competition on the sidewalks throughout the Carmel Arts & Design District, Midtown, Carmel City Center and the City Hall Japanese Gardens. More than three dozen artists from the Midwest, Maryland, South Carolina and other states will be at the event, which is free to spectators, runs Friday to Sunday, September 17-19.

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is excited to reveal the 2021 design of the iconic, annual collectible mug used to serve Glühwein, hot chocolate or another favorite warm beverage. This year the light blue color was carefully chosen to pay honor to the healthcare and essential workers who have been tirelessly working to get us through the pandemic, which forced the cancellation of our event in 2020. The design also features a white dove with an olive branch in its beak placed on the handle of the mug.

This new addition to Carmel’s growing inventory of public art began to take shape in June thanks to a collaboration between current and former local high school students who approached the City and brought in the Indianapolis-based artist Israel Solomon. The large-scale mural features Black heroes and heroines who hail from or have had an impact in the state of Indiana.
