The architectural design of a home is a preview to what is inside; the style of the exterior often sets the tone for the interiors, be it modern or traditional. Façade styles, windows and doors and exterior finishes are all elements that can elevate an exterior and add to its overall appeal. Indiana Design Center businesses Gary Nance Design and Glass House Gallery are frequent collaborators and are experts on what styles and products discerning clients will want this year.

The idea of building a custom home is exciting and full of possibilities but can also be a little daunting. With so many factors to consider, you may be a little unsure of the process and exact steps involved. The where. The how. And who will make it happen. You’ve had a vision for your new home. Now let’s bring your vision to life. Here’s an overview of what you can expect when building a custom home:

The City of Carmel has commissioned four new roundabout sculptures for the 96th Street corridor that will celebrate “Indiana’s Classic Cars.” The new pieces will be designed by the artist Arlon Bayliss and are scheduled to be placed in 2022 and 2023. The four automobile themed sculptures will beautify the new roundabouts on 96th Street at Priority Way, Delegates Row, Gray Road and Hazel Dell Parkway.

The four sculptures will feature artistic interpretations of the classic cars Marmon, Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg, Stutz and Studebaker – each of which were designed and built in Indiana during the first half of the 20th Century when America first began to fall in love with automobiles.

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt has been voted Best Holiday Market in the United States for the second time from the USA Today 10Best competition. The candidates were selected by a panel of experts and 10Best editors, and then the public voted for their favorites. The Carmel Christkindlmarkt also received the first-place spot in 2019.

“I am proud of all the people who work so hard to organize and operate our Chriskindlmarkt,” said Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard. “These rankings are important because it helps Carmel continue to be recognized as an exceptional city across the U.S., which in turn helps our economic development and recruitment efforts.”

Humans are creatures of habit. We show up at the gym day after day, landing in our typical spot on the floor—mine is right in front of the Transformation Wall.

I’ve looked at that wall many times over the last two years and thought, “what would my Transformation Story look like?” often concluding, “I wouldn’t look transformed enough to make it on that wall.” But as a lifelong athlete, I have struggled with all kinds of things that could use a transformation, not the least of which has been a battle with body image and always fighting the ‘performance’ mentality. It’s not surprising the Transformation Wall would, again, evoke the feeling of not quite measuring up.

MY SALON Suite at Carmel City Center is now open. The 5,677 square foot MY SALON Suite is located on the plaza of the United Fidelity Bank Building at 800 S. Rangeline Road, Hanover Place, Suite 290. The Carmel City Center location is the first Indianapolis area location and second Indiana location for the company.

You’ll want to enjoy your home building adventure, and that begins by doing a little homework. Here are the top things to consider when building your custom home:

(Indiana Design Center) In 2021 design movements continue to follow the “comfort at home” theme, making popular the things that make our homes that much more livable and functional. Outdoor spaces and theater rooms remain in demand as we entertain more in our spaces, and textured, layered materials create that comforting feeling we all want to be able to enjoy at home. The professionals at the Drapery Street showroom located at the Indiana Design Center report that the following design styles and features are taking prominence in the industry.

The Indiana Design Center has a network of affiliated design professionals with an abundance of experience and expertise. As we look to 2022, we have surveyed the designers to hear what they deem will be popular or continue to be favorable for 2022. Our friends at Sassy Green Interiors and JB Designs report that wallcovering is here to stay, but with a fresh twist.

“It’s a Holly Jolly Christmas and in case you didn’t hear…”
